Sustainable Solution Meets Budget Constraints

Integrated Water Services (IWS) successfully delivered a design-build project for ae wastewater treatment plant in Lerin Hills Subdivision, Kendall County, Texas. This case study highlights ISW’s expertise in providing cost-effective and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment solutions.

Challenges Faced:

  • Meeting stringent Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) tertiary discharge limits.
  • Designing a wastewater treatment system that accommodates future growth while being cost-effective for the client’s budget.

Solutions Implemented:

  • IWS employed a design-build approach, streamlining the project by handling all aspects from design to start-up.
  • The innovative wastewater treatment system incorporated a complete mix activated sludge wastewater treatment system paired with tertiary filtration, as well as an aeration system to maintain oxygen levels, ensuring efficient nutrient and organic matter removal while complying with TCEQ regulations.
  • The design also aligns with a Grinder Pump Force Main collection system, which transports sewage efficiently from residential units to the treatment facility.
  • IWS collaborated with the client and the wastewater treatment system vendor to achieve optimal performance within budget constraints.

Outcome and Impact:

  • IWS delivered a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 110,000 gallons per day (GPD), with turndown capability to 11,000 GPD.
  • The plant met the TCEQ’s stringent discharge limits for BOD of 5 mg/l, TSS of 5 mg/l, ammonia of 1 mg/l, and phosphorus of 0.5 mg/l.
  • IWS’s cost-effective solution satisfied the client’s budgetary requirements.

Key components of the treatment system include:

  • Aeration Chamber
  • Mechanical Clarifier
  • Sludge Holding Chamber/Aerobic Digester
  • Iso-Disc Cloth Media Filter for membrane filtration
  • Disinfection Equipment
  • Post Aeration Tank and Pump System

These units work together to achieve efficient nutrient and organic matter removal, essential for water quality improvement. Additionally, sedimentation tanks and sludge treatment systems ensure compliance with environmental standards, while minimizing the environmental impact of the operation.

.In addition to site improvements and the concrete pad, IWS oversaw the start-up of the treatment facility, collaborating closely with Ashbrook Corporation to ensure seamless operation. The project highlights IWS’s commitment to renewable energy and innovative treatment solutions for wastewater treatment facilities.

Abel Godines, the owner’s representative for LH Devco, Inc. was pleased with the project. “IWS really made this a smooth project, from working with the site civil engineer and completing the design, to constructing the system, and then doing the start-up. This was a complex project and needed creative thinking to provide a solution for the budget we had. IWS added value to the project and I would highly recommend them for future projects.”
