Sargent Schools, located in rural Rio Grande County, Colorado, undertook a significant expansion project, including the addition of a new high school building. This project presented a unique wastewater treatment challenge due to the site’s remote location and stringent regulatory requirements.
Overview: The Neenan Company was contracted to design and build the school expansion. Given the absence of suitable surface water disposal options and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s (CDPHE) mandate for subsurface discharge with less than 10 mg/L total nitrogen, a specialized treatment system was essential. IWS was selected for their expertise in designing, permitting, and constructing such complex systems.
